Ships Classification Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (SCM) was established in 1994, near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia inspired by the awareness between local professionals and entrepreneurs that the need for a Classification Society is clearly evident considering the development in our maritime industry.

Since its inception as a national Classification Society, SCM has continuously been promoting safety of life at sea and marine environmental protection. In addition, SCM is also an ISO9001 QMS certification and R.O. Code compliance company. SCM confines the classification activities largely to Malaysian-registered ships. Message from the
Managing Director

Malaysia, as an emerging economy had experienced a huge expansion of the maritime transportation sector between East Malaysia, West Malaysia, and the ASEAN region. It was this expansion that inspired the formation of a local classification society to provide classification and statutory certification services for Malaysian registered ships. Founded in 1994 with the objective of providing support to the maritime industry, SCM is the first local Classification Society to obtain the authorization from the Government of Malaysia to provide Classification and statutory certification services for all the major IMO conventions that Malaysia is signatory to.

Presently, SCM not only conducts surveys and inspections for classification of ships and other floating structures, we also provide inspection and certification services to vessels owned and operated by the Malaysian Royal Navy, training institutions, and carry our inspections on behalf of other Government agencies.

In the interest of ensuring the highest safety standards of our classed vessels, SCM has always emphasized on the safety of life and property at sea, prevention of pollution to the marine environment, maritime security and the welfare of seafarers as the pillar of our services. This mission to achieve the very high standard in ships operation is closely associated with our attributes on always doing the utmost to achieve the highest quality, to form collaborative effort of all stake holders to achieve a common goal, with efficiency, while working independently without being influenced by external sources and to perform with the highest level of integrity. To complement our work culture, we consider our clients as our partners and play the role as solution providers in all aspects of technical requirements.

In addition, SCM is keeping in pace with the latest technologies and development in the digital revolution, survey perspectives in line with technological advancement and the changes required to meet the reduction in GHG emission in accordance to the aspirations of our government and IMO.

We will strive to be an organization of choice for classification of ships and other maritime related work scope and to keep pace with changes as determined by IMO in marine safety, environment protection, and technological advancement in ships designs and operations.
